Our friends at the Goulburn Valley Kart Club (Numurkah), are currently experiencing severe flooding at their track. See photos at the bottom of this post.
All karters, please give the Goulburn Valley Kart Club your full support in the coming weeks to assist with the massive clean up and restoration of their facility.
The following statement has been issued by Michael Scott, Vice-President, GVKC.
21ST Birthdays don’t come around every year and usually generate great anticipation and excitement. The 21st running of the Australasian Kart Titles is no different. However, the tradition of the event has been turned upside down and inside out.
Firstly, the traditional date of September has been changed. When the Australian Championships were shifted to a July date to cope with the Darwin heat, the Goulburn Valley Kart Club was presented with an opportunity to fill the Easter date with their ever popular Australasian Kart Titles. This gives Karters the chance to use their Easter weekend to go motor racing and compete in a quality event. Potentially attracting Karters, who may not have been qualified nor had the desire to compete in the Australian Championships. The Australasian Kart Titles accepts entries from A, B, C and D grade licence holders, including P platers.
The next twist has come with the flooding rainfall experienced in North-East Victoria over recent weeks. The resulting flood-waters have left the Numurkah Raceway, over 1 metre under water. Members of the GVKC have remained undeterred and keener than ever to present Karters with the chance to compete in the event. A number of different possibilities have been explored and we are pleased to announce, that with the co-operation of the Mildura Kart Club, the 2012 Australasian Kart Titles will now be held at Mildura Raceway, with Saturday’s 2nd heat to be held in the evening under lights. Let the Birthday celebrations commence.
The event has been an established breeding ground for young Karters, providing the opportunity to pit themselves against their peers and prepare for National and State championship challenges. All junior classes will again feature at this meeting including; Rookies, Midgets, Junior National, Junior Clubman and Junior Max. With support from the Moira Shire and Empire Trade Exchange, trophies will be presented to fifth place for all junior classes, as well as limited edition prints for the Junior Champions.
Organisers anticipate up to 240 racers will compete in 16 classes, including senior Clubman and Sportsman Tag classes. Drivers will participate in four races over two days, culminating in a winner take all Championship final on Sunday afternoon. Qualifying was re-introduced to the Titles in 2011 and proved to be an extremely popular innovation. The 2 timed qualifying sessions in this year’s event will only add to the tension and drama. The Australasian Kart Title is a recognized Victorian Karting Association Title and the victors are awarded an Australasian Kart Titles trophy along with the right to carry the prestigious Champions, Red Number Plate in Victoria.
Something new for 2012 is the introduction of the Empire Trade – Engine Builder’s Point Score. The GVKC wants to reward engine builders who are successful at the event. Karters must register their engine builder as a sponsor in their entry for them to be eligible. A holiday voucher from Norwood House, Mt Eliza Victoria ( www.norwoodhouse.com.au), valued at $400, will be presented to the most successful Engine Builder. So we encourage ALL engine builders to get their Karters to the Australasian Kart Titles this Easter weekend.
Revised Supplementary Regulations will be available online at: http://www.vka.asn.au very shortly.
MOST IMPORTANT: event entry is ONLINE ONLY at http://www.karting.net.au
Payment must be received by the GVKC via the CMS system for entry to be accepted, prior to 3rd April 2012.
Once class grid is full no further entries will be taken – classes will NOT be over subscribed.
The Goulburn Valley Kart Club is keen to continue the social fabric of the Australasian Kart Titles, providing a relaxed atmosphere combined with highly competitive racing. Camping is available on site, while catering will be provided over the course of the weekend. Bar facilities will be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings with the highlight of Saturday evening combining a BBQ dinner and BAND. Mildura Raceway is a high caliber facility that many Victorian racers may not have experienced before. The 2012 Australasian Kart Titles gives competitors the chance to experience Mildura and what the region has to offer. As we go to press there is still plenty of accommodation available as well as camping on site at Mildura raceway.
